Rome

On Wednesday night, we took a train from Florence to Rome and spent Thursday there.  We began the morning by walking around the ancient ruins and then we saw the colosseum.  It was amazing to actually see these things in person and to think of how long they have been there.  I am fascinated by history, and I loved walking around the colosseum and trying to picture what it would have been like in the Roman times.

After that, we had lunch and then made our way over to the Spanish Steps and the Trivy Fountain.  The fountain is so big and elaborate, and there were people everywhere trying to get pictures by it.  We took our pictures as quickly as possible and then went to the Vatican.  Since it was All Saint's Day, the Sistine Chapel was closed, but we got to go in St. Paul's Basilica.  It was the biggest cathedral I have seen in Europe, and it was so elaborately decorated inside.  It was so pretty and I loved looking at all the little details from the paintings to the statues on the walls.

After the Vatican, we had dinner and gelato, and then went back to our hostel.  We had a 10am train the next morning to Venice that took about five and a half hours.  Since we spent most of that day on the train, all we did that night was find our Venice hostel and get some dinner.
