Turkey Day in Greece

My mom and I spent the last few days of her trip in Greece.  We stayed at a great hotel in Athens and had so much fun exploring the city together.  On Thursday, we took a hop on, hop off bus tour of the famous sites in Athens.  We got off and explored the Acropolis and went the new Acropolis museum.  It was amazing to see the ruins and artifacts from so long ago and to try to imagine how they lived back then.  We had lunch at the museum café and tried the baked feta with honey and black sesame seeds.  It was amazing and I couldn't believe how much I liked it.  I have been having feta withdrawals because I can't find it in France, so I was in heaven.  After the museum, we caught the bus back to the hotel and asked them for a suggestion of a good restaurant for dinner.  We went to a cute little place a few streets away from our hotel.  I had lamb and beef kebabs and my mom had some type of fish dish.  After dinner, we decided to stop into a bakery on the way back to the hotel so my mom could get baklava.  Then, we went back to the hotel to Skype our family for Thanksgiving.  We also went to the roof of the hotel to see the Acropolis all lit up at night.  The roof of our hotel had an amazing view of it and we were able to get some great pictures.

The next morning, we took the metro to the port where we took a ferry to the Island of Aegina.  We spent the morning exploring the island and walking along the coast.  We got some beautiful pictures of the ocean and the other Greek islands in the distance.  We found a place where archeologists have uncovered the city of an ancient civilization and walked all around the ruins.  It was amazing to see something so old and to be able to see little windows and remnants of buildings.  There was also the ruin of a temple that we got to climb up to.  We went in the museum of the ruins and saw lots of artifacts that were uncovered from the civilization that lived there.  I love seeing things from ancient times and I was fascinated with all of the little painted clay jars and other things that were found. After exploring, we found a little place to eat by the water and then caught our ferry back to Athens.  That night, we went to Plaka which is an area of Athens that has lots of cute shops and restaurants.  We walked all around and did some shopping before finding a cute restaurant for dinner.  For our last meal in Greece, I had a lamb kebab and my mom had baked lamb with potatoes.  Both of our meals were really good and we had an awesome last night together.  We had to wake up really early the next morning because our flight back to Paris was at 6:45am.  It was a long exhausting day and it was even worse for my mom who then had to fly back to the U.S.  It was so hard to say goodbye to her but I am so happy that she was able to come and that we had such an awesome week together.

My Week With Mommy

My mom arrived on Saturday morning and I have been the happiest girl in the world ever since.  We spent the day on Saturday hanging out at my apartment and catching up.  On Sunday, we had breakfast at a café and then walked around the Tuileries gardens for a while.  It was raining really hard so we decided to go to the Musée d'Orsay to see the Impressionism in Fashion exhibit.  We spent a few hours at the museum and then went to the famous tea room Angelina for lunch.  We got their amazing hot chocolate that tastes like a melted chocolate bar and I was in heaven.  Then, we went back to my apartment and hung out for the rest of the night.  On Monday, we met up after my class and explored the Pompidou Center near my school.  We had lunch there and then went to find a woman who my aunt had met on Facebook through her work.  My aunt had given my mom a packet to give to this woman so we went to her apartment and spent about an hour and a half there visiting with her.  She barely spoke any English so we had to communicate all in French.  It still amazes me how much more French I can understand than when I first got here.  When we left her apartment, we walked over to the Eiffle Tour to see it all light up at night.  The lights sparkle every hour on the hour so we got to see it sparkle at 8:00 when we were close.

We walked around it for a little while and took some pictures, and then we headed over to the latin quarter for dinner.  We had a nice meal at a café there and then when back to the hotel because we had to get up really early the next day.  We woke up at 5am to get to our tour of the Loire Valley in time.  It was a three hour drive to the Loire Valley, and then we saw three castles and had lunch in a nice restaurant.  The castles were amazing and we had the best weather for the trip.  It was a very long day but it was so much fun.  Today we have been packing and getting ready to go to Greece tonight.  I am so excited and I can't wait to go.  I can't believe I will be in Greece tonight!
